The competitiveness of Polish horticultural products on the EU and world markets and the changes on the market following Polands accession to the EU
B. Nosecka, A. Bugala
Резюме: Poland holds a significant place on the EU market in the total production of fruits and vegetables. Our country is one of the biggest producers of concentrated fruit juice and frozen fruits and the second (after Belgium) producer of frozen vegetables in the EU. Only China is bigger than Poland in the production of concentrated apple juice, and in the case of frozen fruits and concentrated juice from soft fruits – China and the USA. We are part of the group of 5 biggest global producers of frozen vegetables. In EU and global exports Poland counts only as a supplier of frozen fruits and concentrated fruit juice. Poland’s position on the international market of fresh horticultural products is significant only in the exports of apples and onions. On the market of the “old” EU states, Poland, similar to countries with relatively low production costs, operates primarily as a supplier of resources to the processing plants of EU-15. The main consumers of dessert fruits and vegetables and highly-processed products are the EU-12 and CIS states.
