Annual changes of vegetables and fruits prices for 2015 and 2016 as a factor for production sustainability

Abstract: IIn last ten years the prices of Bulgaria vegetables and fruits are relatively constant. At the same time the production share cannot increase, even decreases slightly for some products. It has been observed a strong impact of climatic factors and, logically, lower prices in summer than in winter. The local prices of products are higher than international ones, which shows some advantage of consumers tastes and higher quality of Bulgarian products. The performance of Bulgarian output in winter and spring period has been observed as weaker, especially for tomatoes and apples. The curve of prices change is in correspondence of products prices dynamics for both years. It starts by levels of 1.218 in 2015 and 1.305 in 2016. Then it passes through levels of 1.559 and 1.632 in April and through the season sale of 0.959 and 1.069 points. At the end of year both points are almost equalized with these from 2014 – 1.194 и 1.357, compared to 1.215. Through VAR method use has been established a lack of significant relation in the group of vegetables, while in the group of fruits there is an important dependence between the prices of strawberries and of bananas. The dynamics of current prices in the groups of vegetables and fruits is still quite wide. This reflects the fact that relatively small part of the local output passes through the stock exchange markets and these products are not sufficiently prepared for winter consumption. In most cases the profitability of Bulgarian producers is of relatively small capacity, which does not allow them to prepare their output for realization. In lots of cases the providers prefer the imported production, which is aggregated and relatively known by consumers. At last, the prices of vegetables and fruits on the stock exchange markets show that the sustainability of their production is still unachieved.
