Effect of CAP coupled support on the development of livestock farms in Bulgaria
Krasimira Kaneva, Nina Koteva, Hrabrin Bachev, Plamena Yovchevska, Vasil Stoychev
Abstract: Subject of this study is the impact of coupled support on restructuring, efficiency and competitiveness of livestock farms. It was found that the economic efficiency of farms is growing as a result of the increase in total, including coupled support. The efficiency without subsidies, however, decreased in all sectors compared to the first year of EU accession. Changes in coupled support for 2017–2020 are aimed to redirecting the flow of funds from pooled herds in economically weak, disadvantaged and vulnerable areas to farms with highly productive animals under selection control. Redistributive payments with higher rate of support for farms with small herd size are introduced. Special schemes are introduced to support the beneficiaries in mountain areas.
