Organic production - a priority of Bulgarian agriculture in the new programming period 2014 - 2020

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze and evaluate the place and role of organic farming sector (OF) in Bulgaria by the end of the programming period 2007–2013 and to identify the main factors that determine its future development in the context of national and the common agricultural policy in the next programming period 2014–2020. On the basis of statistics, literature review and comparative analysis is outlined the place of organic farming in Bulgarian agriculture, comparing to some Member States from EU. The measures by which organic farmers were assisted so far in the country and new ones set out in the RDP for the next programming period are tracked. Factors that most influence the further development of OF are emphasized and some conclusions and suggestions for effective future support for this important sector are provided.
