Competitiveness of Polish agriculture in terms of regional
J. Buks
Abstract: The factor to determine the future competitiveness of the Polish agriculture sector in the EU will probably be the effectiveness in taking advantage of the production potential constituted by the resources of factors of production, i.e. land, capital, and labour. These resources differ substantially across regions. For that reason, carrying out research at the scale of a voivodeship has been deemed significant. In the case of agriculture, where production requires a number of different outlays and provides many effects, the concept of total factor productivity (TFP) has proved useful. In this analysis the Hicks-Moorsteen type productivity index was used. It follows from the analysis that the outlays incurred in the production process were effectively used only in the Mazowieckie, Podlaskie, and Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeships. The highest productivity of those voivodeships qualifies them as competitive in relation to others.
