Selected determinants of human capital in rural areas in Poland during the first years after the accession to the EU

Abstract: Human capital is usually identified with the features of people. These include formal qualifications (the level of education), skills, state of health, vital energy, and civilisational competences. In current conditions, as human capital is gaining in importance as an originator of development processes in the economy, the educational activity of the population1 plays an increasingly significant role, both at the level of general transformations and at the individual level determining the chances of an individual to succeed on the labour market and to fulfill the professional and cultural aspirations.
