The assessment of the competitiveness of the Bulgarian meat industry

Abstract: The analyses of the competitiveness of the Bulgarian meat industry were based on the results of foreign trade which allowed to assess: - Foreign trade balance; - Revealed comparative advantages, measured by the Balassa index; - Measures of the export orientation of production. - Price advantages of Bulgarian producers over competitors from the European Union. It was supplemented by a description of the main sources and barriers to competitiveness. The article presents the results from a contrastive analysis of the meat industry in Bulgaria compared to the meat industries of the European Union 27 based on key compatibility factors. The values of the following compatibility factors are compared: - Degree of specialization of the meat sector - Degree and dynamics of labour productivity - Degree of concentration of the production in the meat sector - Average annual growth in Gross Added Value - Growth of the investments in the meat sector
