Assessment of the governance sustainability of farms located in mountain areas with natural constraints
Angel Sarov
Abstract: In the last decade the publications related to the sustainability assessment have significantly increased due to the numerous forums for determination of standards for the existing evaluation tools. The adopted methodology for assessing sustainability in agriculture focuses the researchers’ attention primarily on the approved three pillars of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. At the same time, there is a shortage of knowledge and scientific researches on the governance aspect of sustainability. Regardless of the holistic approach of the research so far to assess sustainability in agriculture, the development of the so-called governance pillar is necessary. In recent years, the governance has become a fourth pillar of sustainability. The aim of the this study is to approve a tool for assessing the governance sustainability of farms in Bulgaria located in mountain areas with natural constraints and on this basis to make suggestions for the policies improvement.
