Review of institutional mechanisms for eco-management of agricultural holdings in Bulgaria
Anton Mitov
Abstract: Institutional mechanisms relating to eco-management are a decisive factor in the implementation of environmentally friendly practices on agricultural holdings. Organic production is growing rapidly, especially in crop production. The share of agricultural land in Natura 2000 is one of the highest in the EU, with more and more resources being allocated for consulting and training for farmers. The number of agri-environmental measures under the first and second pillars of the CAP is increasing, ensuring the implementation of good environmental protection practices. Also, the high resource intensity of the applied technologies in agricultural holdings creates preconditions for environmental risk and pressure on the environment.
