Socio-economic, environmental and governance aspects of the utilisation of sludge in agriculture from waste water

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze the socio-economic, environmental and management aspects of the utilization of sludge in agriculture obtained from wastewater at the Wastewater Treatment Plants. Statistical information was used by Eurostat and the MAFG’s Agro statistics Department. A brief literature review of publications on the topic is made at the outset. Thereafter, more light is placed on the regulatory framework in the EU and Bulgaria. The analysis continues with the situation so far, based on existing statistics on the quantities of sludge received and its utilization in agriculture in the European countries and in Bulgaria. Dependence and sludge effect on grain yield are determined on the basis of regression analysis. The study concludes with summaries and conclusions.
