Some problems of sustainable development of meat livestock farming

Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze and evaluate meat farming sectors – “Pig”, “Poultry”, “Beef cattle” in Bulgaria on the extent to which these sectors meet the consumers’ requirements; the realization of products of meat livestock at home and foreign markets. The study aims also to focus on some issues of sustainable operation and possibilities for the future development of abovementioned sectors and to make some conclusions on local livestock meat farming in the country as a whole. The object of the analysis is meat farming in general – production, trade with meat and meat products. The approach used is based on tracking, comparison and analysis of production of meat livestock in the country, trade, domestic consumption and self-sufficiency in meat sector. The survey results provide information on opportunities for development of meat livestock sectors, as well as on their comparative competitive advantages.
