Effect of Cows Milk Price Volatility on Dairy Farms Income in Bulgaria
Vasil Stoychev
Abstract: Reform of Common market organization for cow’s milk in the EU and abolition of quota system led to significant farm gate price volatility. Amplified impact of foreign markets caused market shocks induced by economic and policy factors outside the union. The purpose of the research is to quantify the price fluctuations of farm gate milk price as deviation from average price and in order to determine how these have affected the revenue from milk and milk products of specialized dairy farms. The surveyed time span covers the period 2007–2017. Data for cow’s milk price are from the EU Milk Market Observatory and data for revenue (Total output) of specialized dairy farms from Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN), Brussels. The results show price fluctuations are steadily decreasing and have insignificant impact on total output.
