Regional differences and competitiveness of Bulgarian agriculture

Abstract: The aim of this study is to assess the competitiveness of agriculture in Bulgaria compared to EU member states through the prism of regional differences for the during 2010–2020. The RS component of Shift-Share analysis has been adapted for this purpose. An accompanying goal of the analysis is to test the applicability of the method for identifying suitable components for creating a regional cluster type. The results present that in Bulgaria there is a positive trend in employment, total labor productivity, factor income, and net entrepreneurial income in agriculture. They follow the trend in the change of the selected components for the EU–27 reference region during the analyzed period.
