Framework for Assessing Competitiveness of Farms

Abstract: This paper suggests a holistic framework for assessing competitiveness of agricultural farms. First, we define the competitiveness of farm as internal capability to sustain competitive advantage leading to high economic performance through constant improvements and adaptation to evolving market, natural and institutional environment. Next, we define the criteria for competitiveness of farms ¦ economic efficiency, financial security, adaptability, and sustainability. After that we present the indicators for assessment of different aspects of farms competitiveness. Finally, we suggest an approach for integration of indicators for individual farm and farms of specific type and specialization.
