Impact of the Common Agricultural Policy on the competitiveness, opportunities and prospects for development of viticulture in Bulgaria

Abstract: The goal, which is placed in this report, is to determine the effect of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on the competitiveness and development of the viticulture in Bulgaria, to point the reasons for the current state of the sector and to outline some guidelines for future development. In the production of wine grapes in Bulgaria, which must stand to the increasing competition in domestic and foreign markets manifested in a sharp increase in the production of competitive high quality wines, it is necessary to achieve sufficient volume and quality of wine grapes, relatively low costs for production and good match with the structure of the demand for varieties. To achieve good image of Bulgarian wines and to ensure survival, stabilize and improve of the positions of grape producers it is necessary to improve the state of viticulture in the shortest possible time. This can be achieved through measures for support from the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union.
